The real cost of AI video in 2026.

We compiled the published pricing of 12 leading AI video tools into one dataset — entry price, monthly allowance, cost-per-minute, bundled models, and free-tier terms. The headline: entry pricing varies 4.3×, and cost-per-minute varies up to 5.2× between platforms doing fundamentally similar things.

Key findings

Five numbers worth quoting.

4.3×

Entry-price spread — from $6.99 (Kling) to $30 (Luma) per month.

$17

Average entry price across all 12 tools (median $18).

5.2×

Cost-per-minute spread among minute-billed tools — InVideo AI at $0.56/min vs HeyGen at $2.9/min.

12/12

Tools that exclude commercial use on their free tier — free output is for evaluation only across the board.

3/12

Tools that bundle multiple frontier video models; the rest are single-model, avatar, or editor-first.

Cost-per-minute

Where minute-billed tools land.

Avatar and editor platforms bill by output minute rather than generation credits, which makes their true cost directly comparable. The spread is dramatic.

InVideo AI
$0.56/min
Vidnoz AI
$1/min
Synthesia
$1.8/min
HeyGen
$2.9/min

Credit-billed generators (Deevid, Kling, Pika, Runway) work out to roughly $0.05–$0.25 per short clip — not directly comparable to per-minute avatar billing, but materially cheaper for short-form output.

Methodology

How we compiled this.

  • Source: every figure was taken from each provider's public pricing page during May 2026. Where a tool runs a promotional price, we used the current promotional rate (e.g. Deevid Lite at $10, regular $14).
  • Entry price = the lowest paid monthly tier. Annual-billing discounts are excluded for comparability.
  • Cost-per-minute is shown only for tools that bill by output minute (avatar and editor platforms). Credit-billed generators are noted separately because credits don't map cleanly to minutes.
  • "Commercial on free" reflects whether the free tier grants commercial-use rights — across all 12 tools, it does not.
  • Limitations: AI-tool pricing changes frequently. These figures are a May 2026 snapshot. Verify against the live pricing page before citing in time-sensitive work.
